I started out on Saturday the 4th of September about nine in the morning. Suzi (aka: The Pack Mule ) was loaded and ready to go.

I was trying to get to Galax, VA and find a place to camp. Sunday would be the day to hit the fun part of Route 56 between Galax and Damascus.
The hardest part of doing that was getting past all the gravel on the roads between Rocky Mount and The Meadows of Dan.

This id Rout 806 that connects Route 42 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I took it because it had less gravel than 42 did.....

Uhm... Right.
Once I got onto the BRP it was pretty smooth sailing down to The Meadows of Dan.

Here's one of the Crooked Trail road side stops. Some of them have things where you can tune your car radio to a channel and it'll tell you what the sign says.
I made it to Galax about 5PM. I stopped and got some food and headed for Crooked Creek Wildlife Management Area. You're allowed to camp at all the WMA's I know of but there are no proper facilities.

Home is where ya dig it.....
